Workshops for Young People

“It was brilliant, they know loads!”
Pupil, Thamesmead school, Surrey

“The spontaneity of improvisation is such a rush, working with Cartoon de Salvo has broadened my perception of what theatre can be.”
Sophie Roche, 15, Lyric Young Company

Both with and beyond Cartoon de Salvo, Alex, Neil and Brian have extensive experience of leading workshops with young people.

Our educational activity, delivered through local partnerships, offers young people context and practical usage in non-traditional and devised theatre techniques, and – in some cases – input into our work as it develops. We work with schools to create workshops that, while complementing the national curriculum, offer a real insight into new theatre practises and practical tools to devise theatre projects.

Major educational projects include One Night Only with the Lyric Hammersmith’s Young Company, and our summer 2009 project The Greek at the Minack Theatre, Cornwall, with 48 students from Central School of Speech and Drama. Alex has recently returned from Paris where she has been delivering workshops to young people.

We also deliver out-of-hours workshops for youth theatres, after-hours adult theatre classes and inset training for teaching. Skills we can cover include: Devising; Improvisation; Physical Theatre; Clowning; Ensemble and Complicity, Collaborative Writing & Devising for Story; Making It Work as an Independent Company / Artist.
